Enable takeaway for a location, set its preparation and pickup rules, and make the intended items visible on the Takeaway channel. Then place a staging test order and confirm that it reaches the kitchen.
Before you start
Select the correct location. You need permission to update location settings, items, and menus. Confirm the correct takeaway VAT with your accounting adviser before changing tax settings.
Enable takeaway
- Open Settings → Location Details.
- Select the Pickup Settings tab.
- Turn on Takeaway.
- Choose Default takeaway VAT, or leave it as None (use regular VAT).
- Enter the Preparation time (minutes) guests should expect.
- Add clear Pick up information that tells guests where to collect.
Changes save after you leave each field. Reopen the location to confirm the values remain.
Configure pickup times
- Under Pickup Settings, turn on scheduled pickup times when guests should choose a slot.
- Set how many days in advance a guest can choose.
- Set how many minutes before pickup a scheduled order should move into the kitchen workflow.
- Configure the available time slots and capacity shown below the pickup settings.
If scheduled pickup is off, takeaway orders use the location's immediate pickup flow and preparation estimate.
Make items available for takeaway
- Open Items & Menu → Inventory.
- Open each item that should be sold for takeaway.
- Under Visibility, enable the Takeaway channel.
- Review the takeaway price and VAT.
- Open Items & Menu → Menu Builder.
- Confirm that the item is in a menu layout available to Takeaway.
An item can exist in Inventory but remain unavailable to takeaway because its channel visibility or menu placement is missing.
Check order handling
Takeaway orders are labelled Takeaway in Orders and the Kitchen Display. Their pickup time is shown when a slot was selected.
- Open Kitchen Display.
- Check that the view includes takeaway orders and the intended preparation groups.
- Place a test order in staging.
- Confirm that the order appears with its pickup time and reaches the correct printer or KDS station.
- Move the order through the normal preparation and ready states.
For detailed display configuration, see Set up the Kitchen Display.
If guests cannot order takeaway
Check that takeaway is enabled, the location is open, pickup slots have capacity, and the item is visible in the Takeaway channel and active menu. Alcohol cannot be included in takeaway orders.
If the problem continues, include the location, affected item, expected pickup time, channel settings, menu layout, and a screenshot of what the guest sees.
