People often say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that we eat with our eyes. That's why we've given menu images a prominent place in Karma Serve.

Below are some recommendations for adding the best possible menu images!

When taking the picture on your phone, make sure you do the following:

  1. Place the item/plate you want to take a picture of on the table. The best background is a solid-colored wall or lamps (if you have a portrait mode - the lights will then blur). Do not use the lights as a background when using the regular camera mode.

Avoid having these backgrounds: people, windows, pictures on the wall. Try to use the same background for all items.

Good examples (clean background)

Poor example (cluttered background, food is not in focus)

2. Take the picture in portrait mode (vertically). Ensure that the object/plate is positioned in the center and within the square. (see image below)

3. The angle for the drinks should be 90 degrees. See below.

4. The angle for the food should be either 45 degrees or from above. The plate must be visible, giving a sense of portion size.

Good example (the dish is in focus)

Poor examples (too close, too cluttered, unappealing)

5. After taking the picture, crop it so that the object is in the center and there are reasonable margins around it. Ensure that the file size is not more than 1 MB and that the dimensions are not more than 1000x1000px.

Good example (centered)

Bad example (too zoomed in)
